“Your body is the ground of your being.” — Thich Nhat Hanh Dance has been a constant thread throughout my life. As a child, I spent hours creating routines and taking ballet classes; as a teenager, I danced through the night at raves. Movement has always been my refuge, a place where I can unplug from worry, self-criticism, and the pull away from the present moment. When I dance, I feel more fully myself: connected to my heart, my body, and to something larger than the individual self, a sense of belonging to both the human and the more-than-human world. At fifteen, I attended my first 5Rhythms workshop with its founder, Gabrielle Roth, and immediately felt a deep resonance with her work. I discovered that 5Rhythms was not simply a way to dance, but a powerful path of self-discovery and emotional healing, a practice that helped me open my heart to myself and to others. Through dance, I felt more alive. More at home. What I had found was not just a class, but a form of movement medicine. My teenage years were challenging, and the support of the 5Rhythms practice, particularly my regular classes with Sue Rickards, was life-saving. In my early twenties, I completed the Foundation Year in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy. This, alongside my ongoing movement practice, gave me the grounding and confidence to write a book for teenage girls, Sisters Unlimited: Every Girl’s Guide to Life, Love, Bodies and Being You, published by Random House. I was a step-mum from the age of 20 and I had my 2 daughters in my mid-twenties. After travelling the world while making the documentary 1 Giant Leap, our family moved to Mallorca. At twenty-eight, I began the 5Rhythms teacher training with Gabrielle Roth and started teaching in Mallorca in 2007. During that time, I also founded a dance and yoga studio in central Palma called Earth Yoga. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, where I met my present husband, and together we raised our four children there until 2023. In 2014 we opened our first health food shop, Wild Honey. Since then, two more have followed, each becoming not just a place to buy organic food but a community hub for wellbeing, connection, and local support. We relocated to Bristol in 2023, where I have returned to teaching and am loving getting to know the dance community here. I am deeply committed to my own ongoing healing and learning. Over the years I have trained in a range of complementary approaches, including Family Constellations (two-year training with Nicola Dunn), shamanic work with Carol Day, and herbalism through the School of Insight Herbalism with Nathaniel Hughes. I am currently undertaking training with IBMT as a Somatic Therapist, reflecting the increasingly somatic focus of my work. I am an accredited 5Rhythms teacher and a member of the 5Rhythms Teachers Association. Above all, I feel deeply grateful for the teachers, practices, and communities that have supported me on my own path, and it is an honour to share this work with others. |
